Photo's decribe my 1st problem I encountered with beekeeping in Canada.

I was warned about the bears; never seeing or having to deal with a bear until 1999 I was not prepared for the damage they were to do.

Bee keeping from 1997 to spring 1999 was with out problems in Madoc township where our 1st apiariy was registered in Canada.

Summer 1999 the remains; after the bears made a meal of the bee's pollen and honey. Alot of the hives were draged into the woods behind and torn into tooth picks.

Rebuilt the apiary from the clusters of bees that servied the winter; A new addition of a solar powered electric fence manages to keep bears out in 2000.

They say bears don't like human smells... if you pee in a couple of bottles and put one at each end of the apiary the bear will avoid your bees, don't leave old comb or frames laying around,
you don't want to attract and put temptation in front of the bears.
